What is a meme?
Well by definition a meme (pronounced /ˈmiːm/, rhyming with “cream”) is a postulated unit of cultural ideas, symbols or practices, which can be transmitted from one mind to another through speech, gestures, rituals or other imitable phenomena.
The term Internet meme is a phrase used to describe a catchphrase or concept that spreads quickly from person to person via the Internet, much like an esoteric inside joke. The term is a reference to the concept of memes, although this concept refers to a much broader category of cultural information.
Memes are theoretical units or the building blocks of cultural diffusion, propagating from one mind to another, analogously to the way a gene propagates from one organism to another as a unit of genetic information.
Creating your own meme
You may already have a tagline, slogan, or catch phrase you use in your marketing, but does it work as well as a meme? They communicate what you do in a few words or in a short sentence. They enable you to get across the benefits of your products and services to prospects in a form they’ll remember and repeat to others.
Use the following steps to write your meme
- Identify your target market.
- Define problems you solve for clients.
- Clarify the benefits you provide.
- Determine what you would like people to do after they hear or see your meme. What question do you want them to ask or what action you want them to take?
- Use this information to write five conversation-starting phrases that summarize who you help and the problems you solve.
Like the “Just Do It”, “Where’s the Beef” or “Got Milk” campaigns, they used both words and images to get the message across. We knew that our meme had to be like our studio name, to the point, reflect what we do, and use as few words as necessary. Our new meme “better by design” combined with our “simply.design.solutions”, reflects a genuinely strong, long-term link between us and our clients in an effort to deliver the best possible outcome. We believe, by design, we add value to your brand that reaches your audience. Better by design, Procreator’s meme for 2010 reflects genuine ideas that lead to profitable and valuable results.
